Mom and Dad are the best!
I will be getting another year older in a couple of days so this afternoon I will be inviting a few friends to my place for a celebration. Well, it's actually not a celebration but a gathering. I told my mother about it a few days back and she suggested that I get some snacks and make almond jelly for dessert.
I was supposed to come home early yesterday night to make the almond jelly myself but I put in another 2.5hrs at work to complete some report so that my AM could check it over the weekend. When I got home, I realised that the dessert has already been done by my mom! Saving me some effort. Oh....... I can't get any thankful for that.
Yesterday night, I asked my dad if he could get me some soon kueh as snacks for my friends today. He agreed and he just came home with more than I expected. There was soon kueh, ha kao, siew mai, spring rolls, char siew soo.... So much food!!! How can the 5 of us finish all???
Anyway, I love you mom and dad!!!!!! Thanks for getting all that stuff for me. *Muacks*
(Updated on 12 Feb 2006)A picture of the food we had yesterday. Yummy!
The collector
This morning, I went to Singapore Post Centre to pick up "My Stamps" (
http://shop.vpost.com.sg/MyStamp/index.jsp) for my mother. Reached SPC and the customer service personnel told me that it's not ready yet and that I should call SPC before coming down to collect the stamps. After which I checked with my mom and she told me that someone from SPC called her 2 days ago to tell her that the stamps are ready for collection. Ok.... to cut long story short... I went back to the counter to check with the staff again and the lady told me that only 1 out of 2 sets of stamps are ready for collection. If I am willing to wait, she can get someone to print out the second set too. So I waited.
Anyway, this is not the point. The point is while I was waiting I noticed an uncle standing at a corner with lotsa first day covers. I also saw a set of "Uniquely Singapore" stamps which is also what my mom ordered. He caught me looking and said hi and before I knew it I was talking to an uncle who is an avid stamp collector. He is a creative man too. Creating his own first day cover for his clan's lunar new year dinner. He spoke with great enthusiasm and excitement how these stamps and first day covers will be auctioned off at tonight's dinner. It made me happy. Well... happy for him. Hmmm.... happy that there are such creative and passionate people around. I am glad that I met someone like him today. He definitely made my day.
We chatted more. When my mom's stamps are finally ready, I showed my mother's creation. Anyway, I think my mother may have personalised too many of those stamps as the SPC lady actually noted that this was not the first time my mother made an order. :D
Oh... I found out that the CNY stamp series is still around. Hmm... I think I have a pretty picture of my family which was taken on the first day of new year. Perhaps I should personalise a set as momento too? "p
Will we get lucky?
Yeah.... Our fate will be decided this Friday evening. Who will be the lucky person who will realise his/her/their dream of throwing a one month pay check in the boss's face and declare "I QUIT!". Heehee... don't we all dream about doing that.
The 13 million toto draw is this Friday! Quick go get a toto ticket and try your luck. Perhaps you will be the fortunate one to collect your winnings at Selegie this coming Monday morning!
Good luck everyone!!!!!

Chu Yi - First day of new year
The start of the new year seems quite good. For the first time in many years, our family went out to have a simple lunch instead of staying at home having leftovers from the night before. Lunch was good but I think what made the meal more delicious was the simple act of being together. The pictures we took after lunch turned out very pretty too. The weather was perfect and our walk at mount faber after lunch was highly enjoyable.
In short, I am happy. It's good to be with the family. :D
Year of the Dog

Here's wishing everyone a prosperous new year. May good health and happiness follow you wherever you go!
Xin Nian Kuai Le!
My love-hate relationship
I have a love-hate thingy for CNY. It's one of those festive season which I dread the most yet I enjoy the process of getting ready for the new year. I hate it when relatives come to visit and you have to entertain their yearly questions of "what are you doing now?, "how's your work?" etc... As if they care what you are doing and stuff like that. I love it when I need to go out shopping with my mom to get new things for the family and I also like to help with the cleaning of the house too. Afterall, it's only a yearly affair for me (apart from the weekly cleaning that I do) and I treat it as "play" time. :P Such activities makes me feel very involved in the celebration and adds meaning to the festive season.
Anyway, spent the whole of last week going out with my mom every night to buy new year goodies, flowers, groceries, deco, bed sheets etc. Now my house is fully stocked with food and drinks. The fridge is filled with snacks and you can find all sorts of desserts. Dad just brought ba kua home too! There's chilli and non chilli flavour. *yummy* A vast difference from non new year days where sometimes I cannot even find a cup of instant noodles in the drawer.
Haha... ok here's a picture of the new bedsheet that my mom bought. Isn't it cheery and beautiful? I love the cute design and the red colour. Makes the whole festive season more joyous.

Here's another picture of a windmill that we bought this year. Apparently, this item is very popular. I have already seen 2 other household in my neighbourhood displaying the same windmill already.

Some pictures of the stuff we bought/received for CNY this year.
